Here's how to bake the tastiest tofu

Tofu is often used by vegetarians and vegans as a meat substitute. Tofu is made from soybeans and is high in protein and low in fat. Tofu is also sometimes called soy cheese because the process of obtaining tofu is similar to that of cheese. Tofu is made using soy milk that is curdled and to which salts are added. Because you can give tofu many flavors and can process in almost any dish, there are more and more dishes with tofu to find. Baking tofu is therefore becoming increasingly popular.

There are many dishes with tofu

So there are lots of dishes you can use tofu in. Baking tofu is often done for Asian dishes, among others. You can think of dishes with rice and vegetables, but also dishes with noodles. There are several marinades with which you can give tofu an Oriental flavor. In other cuisines, tofu is generally less common. By using the right marinade, however, you can also use tofu very well in Western or Mediterranean dishes, for example. Finally, tofu is also very often used as a substitute for egg.

Marinating the tofu

Before you can start cooking tasty tofu, you will need to marinate the tofu first. Tofu has no distinct flavor of its own. The fact that tofu has no distinctive flavor means that you can do anything with tofu. To ensure that the marinade can be absorbed properly, it is important to cut the tofu into small pieces or slices. It is also important to start marinating the tofu on time. The reason for this is that marinade takes a long time to get to the core. It is best to leave the tofu in the marinade for several hours or even the whole day or night.

Paneling tofu

In addition to removing water from the tofu, you can also pan tofu to ensure that the tofu gets a crispy coating. By paneling the tofu, you create a dry layer around the tofu which can become crispy when fried. However, it is advisable to first remove as much water from the tofu as possible. The most common method of breadcrumbing is to coat the tofu first with flour, then with egg, and finally with breadcrumbs. An added benefit of paneling is that you can add additional flavors during the paneling process. When the tofu is covered with breadcrumbs you can fry the tofu.

Fry crispy tofu in the pan

It can be difficult to get the tofu crispy when frying tofu in the pan. The main reason for this is that tofu is quite moist. This also applies when you want to fry tofu directly from the marinade. If you want to fry tofu crispy you will need to remove as much of this moisture as possible before the tofu goes into the pan. To get the tofu as dry as possible you can wrap it in a cloth and squeeze out the water. However, by doing this you may also lose some of the marinade. In the pan also some of the water will evaporate.

Tofu from the oven

Besides frying tofu in the pan, there are other ways to prepare tofu. For example, you can also prepare tofu in the oven. Tofu can be prepared for this in the same way as if you were to fry the tofu in the pan. An advantage of preparing tofu in the oven is that you don't have to keep an eye on the tofu as much because the temperature can be regulated better. This allows you to prepare other food at the same time, such as cooking vegetables or rice. In addition, you also have the option of preparing vegetables or potatoes in the oven at the same time.

This is how best to store fried tofu

Because you can use tofu in many different dishes, baking a large amount of tofu can be a good idea. This way you can eat several days of tofu and you don't have to bake it every time. However, it is important that you store the tofu in the right way. This way you not only ensure that the tofu remains good but also that the tofu remains tasty. Baked tofu is best kept in the refrigerator in a sealed container. It will keep for at least 2 days. If you want to keep it longer, you can also freeze it. Keep in mind that the structure will change.
